This mechanical pocket watch, made between approximately 1930 and 1950, comes from the traditional watchmaking center of Ruhla in Thuringia. The engraving “Thiel – Made in Germany” on the inside of the case confirms its origin from the production of Gebrüder Thiel GmbH, one of the most important German watch manufacturers of the 20th century.

The movement is hand-wound and likely has between five and seven jewel bearings. The silver-plated, smooth case features a hinged cover. The white dial is marked with gold and red Arabic numerals and includes a small seconds subdial at six o’clock. The diameter is approximately 50 millimeters, the height about 1.5 centimeters, and the weight around 79 grams. The condition is good, with no visible damage or signs of corrosion. Functionality has not been tested.

The company Thiel produced robust and functional watches for the mass market and for export since the late 19th century. After 1945, the company was incorporated into the VEB Uhrenwerke Ruhla integrated system. This example exemplifies the simple elegance and technical reliability of Germany’s interwar period and the early postwar years.

Notable features include the clear origin engraving “Thiel – Made in Germany,” the lightweight, portable case with classic design, and the piece’s character as an authentic testament to Thuringian industrial and watchmaking craftsmanship. The watch is suitable both for collectors and enthusiasts of technical history, as well as a stylish vintage gift.
